About the Supercensus

In addition to transcriptions and indexes, Linda Corupe also offers several publications known as "Supercensus."

A Supercensus, a word coined by Linda, consists of the complete township personal census (transcribed from microfilms at the Archives of Ontario), plus additional genealogical information extracted from various sources. In a Supercensus you will find:
  • Census Listings

The census transcription appears on each left hand page, and is numbered by part and page number, exactly as it is in the original. Additional information (such as middle names, etc.) has been added through my research and personal knowledge. Click here for a PDF example.
In some cases, when the pages were microfilmed in the wrong order, I have rearranged them in the book (for example, the 1861 Sheffield Township census).
To ensure the highest quality of transcription, I cross-check other documents: agricultural and other census records from the area, business directories, etc.
  • Enhanced Biographical Details

On the corresponding lines on each right hand page are biographical details for many of the individuals. This may include births, marriages, deaths, cemetery records, etc. The sources for these additional details are all documented, using codes. Click here for a PDF example.
  • Enhanced Index

This is a comprehensive index of names (for heads of households & strays) and shows ages, birthplaces and spouse's names.
The right hand page contains further information extracted from other records, such as the township agricultural census, various business directories and even assessment rolls. Click here for a PDF example.
  • Codes for the Sources

There is a full list of the codes and sources used in the enhancements. Currently there are close to 100 additional sources which I may consult during the preparation of a supercensus. Click here for a PDF example.

Compare this to online census records, such as Ancestry.ca:
