Napanee Court Records:
This publication covers the proceedings of the first six years
of the Court of Quarter Sessions for the County of Lennox
& Addington, held in the Napanee court house. The main
part of the book is a transcription of the evidence book of
the county's first judge, James Joseph Burrowes, which details
the testimony given in each of the various cases from March,
1866 to March, 1867, the judge's comments and the verdicts.
Supplementing this transcription are newspaper extracts and
supporting information from the Napanee Jail register, which
stretch the scope of this court book from its first session
in 1865 to the end of 1870. Also included is a photograph

Records of the First Heir & Devisee
Commission for the Mecklenburg/Midland District: Set up
to hear claims for deeds not only from original locatees,
but also from the heirs or purchasers of their land, the Commission
compiled extracts of claims and collected proofs of ownership
between 1797 and 1804. Also included are the remarks of the
Council on the various cases. Many of the Loyalists never
received deeds for the land which they were originally assigned;
this publication will bring to light not only the reasons
for this, but also valuable information on where to find the
documents awarding those first grants. This will be a companion
volume to the minutes of the Mecklenburg/ Midland District
Land Board.
